It felt GREAT getting back to my usual routine and clean diet yesterday! I started off the day with a 45 minute/14 mile fasted LISS cardio session on the recumbent bike, had a PWO Nitrean + Natural peanut butter shake for breakfast and then went outside in the pouring rain to replant the banana tree that was blown over in the storm. After my shower I got some chicken breasts marinating for dinner (Key West Chicken) and then settled into my work day. I had a very productive day, and was feeling more alert and energetic than I have in almost two weeks. 🙂
By the way, I decided to bake the Key West Chicken last night (I normally grill it) and it was excellent. I baked it at 425° (F) for about 25 minutes, and finished it off with a quick browning using the broiler element. The flavor was not quite as good as it is when grilled, but the chicken was extra moist and tender, which sort of made up for the lack of grill flavor. Even if you don’t have a grill, this recipe is worth checking out!
So this morning I was in the process of trying to figure out if I wanted to hit the trails for the first time in 12 days, or do another indoor cardio session. Quite literally as I was in the midst of pondering what I felt like doing, I got a text message from Mike Simmons asking me if I wanted to ride. That was all the push I needed, and so I’ve got my bike loaded up and ready to roll. 🙂
Mike is a faster rider than I am even on my best day, so after nearly two weeks with no mountain biking and a pretty poor diet I’m in for one heck of a challenge. That’s OK, I need a hard workout and, after our many battles on Strava, I’m looking forward to finally riding with Mike IRL.
Have a great day!
