NE storms; New video; Another great workout; Broken toe doing better. Happy Halloween!

I want to take a moment to give my best to everyone who has been affected by the storm in the Northeast US. I heard from my friend and JSF Sponsor Aram “Mastover” Hamparian (who lives in the Bronx, NY), and he said things are really bad there. You’re all in our thoughts. Please stay safe. Last night I finished working on the second video from Saturday’s 50 mile “Ride Of the Living Dead”. This… [Read more]

My RoadID arrived; Yesterday’s workout; New video coming. My RoadID: The Wrist ID Sport in black.

My RoadID (I ordered the “Wrist ID Sport” in black) arrived yesterday afternoon, and I’m very pleased with it. The ID looks good, is very comfortable and is super lightweight (just 10g, verified). Obviously this is a bit of equipment that I hope is never needed, but in the unfortunate event that I am involved in an accident it could very well save my life. At just 20 bucks, it’s an inexpensive but smart investment…. [Read more]

Ride Of the Living Dead: post ride report and video. 2012 Ride of the Living Dead: 50 miles of awesome mountain biking!

The 2012 Ride Of the Living Dead event was on Saturday, and we had an absolute blast tearing up the dirt! Mike Simmons and I rode the 50 mile course together, but we saw lots of friends during the event. At the trailhead before the ride we ran into Jim Beyer (dressed as Fred Flintstone), Daniel Cleaver, Mark Huff, Rob Ern and Chris Williams. I’ve ridden with Jim, Daniel and Mark before, and I knew… [Read more]

Leaving early for Santos: 50 mile Ride Of the Living Dead. I got my Fuel all tuned up and ready to go. Let's hope my legs are equaly as ready!

Today is the Ride Of The Living Dead (ROLD) at Santos! This should be a fantastic experience: lots and lots of mountain biking, super cool people, great food and some awesome costumes. Yep, many of the riders do this ride in their Halloween costumes. Lots of my friends will be there, and I know some of them will be riding in costume. I’m doing the complete 50 mile course, but I’m not dressing up: I’m… [Read more]

On track to exceed my goal of 400 miles for October. Activity comparison between August, September and October.

Last month I rode 345.78 miles, which far exceeded the 93.96 miles I rode in August. My goal for October is to ride 400 miles and, barring an injury, that goal will be blown out of the water. So far this month I’ve ridden 23 out of 25 days, and have put in a total of 379.63 miles. Here are some additional stats for the past three months (click to enlarge):   There are six… [Read more]

Split screen video footage of my Bike Torture Chamber in action. Starting yesterday's cycling workout.

For yesterday’s cycling workout I did “Monitor“, which is the fifth workout in the training program I’m currently following on TrainerRoad. The workout included 6×6 minute intervals in the sweet spot (~94% FTP) with some fast pedaling drills. I set up a couple of cameras and recorded the workout for those who wanted to see my Bike Torture Chamber in action. I put my on a tripod behind me, and my off to my left…. [Read more]

RoadID; Bike Torture Chamber video coming; AtLarge Nutrition BIG SALE! My RoadID. I ordered the "Sport" version.

With all the talk yesterday about cycling safety, it dawned on me that I neglected to order my RoadID last week. The inexpensive RoadID was suggested to me by quite a few JSF members, and I think it makes a lot of sense to wear one. I don’t take my wallet when I’m riding, but I have been carrying my driver’s license with me. A driver’s license is better than nothing, but it doesn’t have… [Read more]

First solo road ride on Sunday: safety concerns. Fixing a flat about 12.5 miles into Sunday's 23 mile road ride.

This morning I wanted to talk about Sunday’s solo road ride in a little more detail. This ride was significant because it was my first solo ride on busy roads. Many of the roads I was on were single lane with no shoulder or bike lane. First of all, the weather on Sunday was outstanding! It was cool and sunny, and the skies were crystal clear. Mike and I had planned on a road ride,… [Read more]

Follow-up to Saturday’s blog: thank you JSF community, we live on. John Stone Fitness

When I posted Saturday’s blog (“Changing athletic focus has resulted in some backlash; JSF to close?“), I was not sure what sort of response I was going to get. To be perfectly honest, I very nearly scrapped the entire blog after I wrote it. The reason I almost didn’t post the blog is because, frankly, I was afraid of what the response might be. As I mentioned in Saturday’s blog, I tend to be a… [Read more]
