New Favorite Things item: JAWS Quick Spit Anti-fog Spray.
A couple of weeks ago I wrote a blog in which I discussed the problem of my sunglasses fogging up while mountain biking. With the high humidity we have here in Florida, fogging is a problem nearly year-round–especially in the woods. Not being able to see the trail is not just irritating, it’s dangerous. Many of the people I ride with don’t wear sunglasses, but I don’t like riding without eye protection. The sunglasses I use are vented, but even the two vents on each lens are not enough to combat the high humidity here in Florida. I needed to find a better solution to the fogging problem…
About two weeks ago I started using a product called JAWS Quick Spit Anti-fog Spray. This product is mainly used by swimmers and divers, but it’s also designed to be effective on all types of eyewear. I’ve been putting Quick Spit to the test over the past few weeks, and I’m very pleased with its performance.
The way I apply JAWS Quick Spit is simple: I hit the inside of each lens with one spray, and then use my finger to spread it around until it covers both sides of each lens. I wait about 10 seconds, and then use a soft cloth to remove the product and buff the lenses until they are free of smudges. The instructions on the bottle warn not to over-buff, but I’ve found that I’m able to remove the spray and polish the lenses until they are clear without affecting the product’s ability to do its job.
So, how does Quick Spit perform out on the trails? Extremely well! The first time I used Quick Spit my sunglasses got wet, and I didn’t have a cleaning cloth with me. I wound up taking my sunglasses off because the water dried on the lenses and made the glasses difficult to see through. They remained fog-free, however. It’s a good idea to keep a cleaning cloth with you.
The product is extremely effective, and works as promised. Yesterday when I rode, for example, the humidity was about as bad as it gets: it had rained the day prior, and it was very hot. The trails I rode sit down in a bowl with very little air circulation. The humidity was so thick, hot, sticky and oppressive that you could almost cut it with a knife. I rode 16 miles in those conditions, and my sunglasses never fogged at all–not even slightly. One treatment before riding was all it took.
One other product (also on my Favorite Things list) that I highly recommend that you use in conjunction with Quick Spit is the Halo Protex Skull Cap with Tie. The Halo does a fantastic job of keeping sweat off your face and sunglasses.
