My Madone is tuned and ready to roll!

I’m heading out early this morning for a group road ride. The riding club I’ve joined is called “We Must Be Crazy”, and I’m very much looking forward to putting in some miles with them.

I’ve gone mountain biking with several of the Crazies (Jim Beyer, Mike Simmons, Daniel Cleaver and Paul Lewis), and Mike and I have been on urban assaults and road rides, but this will be my first group road ride. In addition to the guys I already know, I’ll also be meeting and riding with quite a few new people this morning. The Crazies are a fairly large riding club, and I know there are some exceptionally strong riders in the group.

In Thursday’s blog I wrote about how getting out of your comfort zone is the best way to bring about improvement, and I have no doubt that riding with this group is going to push my riding and fitness to new heights…

Case in point: this morning’s group ride is going to be at least a Metric Century (100+ Kilometers), and it’s a pretty challenging route. We’ll be hitting all the Sugarloaf Mountain/Buckhill climbs, and 100+ Kilometers (62+ miles) will be a distance personal record for me. Factoring in the strength of the folks I’ll be riding with, this is going to be a fun, but tough, ride.

Full post-ride report on Monday. In the meantime, I hope you have a wonderful Saturday!

    • Since I bought the Madone we’ve enjoyed some truly spectacular weather; I’ve literally not done anything more than lube the chain, air the tires and wipe the sweat off of the top tube with a soft cloth. 🙂

A couple of the guys I rode with today were on Motobecanes. In fact, one of the strongest riders in the entire group of ~20 riders was on one, and he loves his. While I’m VERY happy with my bike choice, I’m still not convinced that there is anything inherently wrong with Motobecane or BD.
