I try not to let my work life bleed into my fitness blog too much, but I really need a break right now. Last year I didn’t even use all of my vacation days, and this year I’ve still got most of my vacation time available to me. I’ve decided to take a nice, long break from everything. Starting this Friday after work I’m taking two weeks off from work and blogging. During my time off I’ll be doing lots of mountain biking, road cycling, some indoor weight and cycling training, watching movies and spending time with my friends and my family. I’ll return from my vacation on Sunday, January 6, 2013. That date is an important one: it’s the 10 year anniversary of John Stone Fitness!
On a related note, thank goodness for mountain biking, cycling and weight training. Without those things I’d probably go ’round the bend. As much as I enjoy relaxing by watching movies or playing with Loki, those things don’t provide the same type of release as getting in a good ride or a hard workout.
This past Sunday before I went mountain biking at Wekiwa State Park and set several new personal records, I felt like I was coming out of my skin. I was restless, anxious and stressed. Lisa definitely noticed this, and subtlety (heh) suggested that I go mountain biking. 🙂 When I got back from my ride a few hours later I was in a completely different state of mind. I felt calm, happy and relaxed, and I was in a great mood.
The holiday season can be a wonderful time of year, but it can also be an extremely stressful time of year. When we feel pressed for time and as if there are not enough hours in the day, that’s when it’s most important to take an hour or two for exercise.
I’ll leave you with a quote that I love:
“I really regret doing that workout!”
