I hope everyone had a good weekend. I had a fantastic couple of days off celebrating Lisa’s birthday with Lisa and her parents! I woke up early this morning hoping to get a jump on my workload so that I could go mountain biking. Unfortunately the network gods have other plans for me: I woke up to two unrelated major network problems. I manged to resolve one of the issues, but the other problem remains…. [Read more]

Fun weekend ahead; Strava segment matching follow-up.
Finally, the weekend is here! It’s been a pretty crazy week, and I’m ready for some fun and relaxation. This weekend we’re celebrating Lisa’s birthday (Lisa’s so awesome we need a whole weekend to do it right). Her parents are coming over in a few hours, and they’ll be staying with us for the next couple days. Today we’re all going out to eat (Lisa’s choice), and on Sunday Lisa and her mom are going… [Read more]

Couple new PRs yesterday; Shaved head; Strava segment matching.
I got a bit of a late start, but after putting out a few networking fires I managed to break away for a quick ride at Mt. Dora. The trails were still running well, but they were not quite as fast and packed down as they were on Monday morning. Despite the heat and humidity, I was really in the mood to drop the hammer and ride hard. I was anxious to see if all… [Read more]

Recipe alteration to an existing favorite: how did it taste?
Yesterday evening I prepared Mustard, Maple and Rosemary Chicken with Almonds for dinner, only I substituted some crumbled crispy bacon for the almonds. I know what you’re thinking, “Maple and bacon? How can you go wrong with that!” That’s what I thought, and why I decided to make the change. It was very good, but not an improvement on the original recipe. The bacon, of course, tasted excellent with the maple, however I feel the… [Read more]

Some left shoulder pain; Weekend plans/Lisa’s Birthday; Busy day ahead.
For the past few days my left shoulder and part of my left side have been hurting a bit. I don’t think the pain is a result of Friday’s heavy upper body workout, but I suppose that’s a possibility. I’m pretty sure I slept in a weird position on that side a few nights ago, and that’s the cause. I just love getting old. Hopefully by this Friday’s workout the pain will be gone. This… [Read more]

Strava is fun, but there can be too much of a good thing.
Since discovering Strava a little less than three months ago I’ve become completely addicted. There’s no question that Strava has a lot going for it: I obviously enjoy the competitive aspect a great deal, but Strava’s web interface has also proven to be an excellent means of tracking how many miles I’m putting in, where I’m riding, sharing my rides with others and so forth. I also enjoy checking out my post-ride data on Strava’s… [Read more]

Took yesterday off; Incorporating recovery rides.
I took yesterday completely off, and basically sat around the house most of the day watching movies, playing poker and cooking. I simply was not in the mood to exercise, and I felt like a lazy day was just what I needed. I think it was the right call, as I enjoyed myself and I feel recharged and ready to go this morning. In Saturday morning’s blog I brought up the subject of adding direct… [Read more]

Thinking about doing direct leg work again.
Not too long after my cut ended I decided to stop doing direct leg work. The reason I made that choice is because the recovery time was keeping me off the bike for too long. The problem is I’ve noticed a loss of leg stamina when I’m actually riding, and I’ve also noticed that I feel the rides more the next day. Last week I rode on Monday, took a day off on Tuesday and… [Read more]
