I’m riding every day now; First Century: Horrible Hundred race?

My goal this month is to cycle 550 miles, and with only 30 days in which to do it I’ve got to ride an average of 18.33 miles per day. Last month I rode just shy of 500 miles, and that was a new personal record for me. I rode six out of seven days each and every week last month, and I think this month I’m going to need to take that a step… [Read more]

Review of past few cuts, and why no cut will be required in January. Won't be going through this in 2013!

It’s looking like I will not be doing a formal cutting program in January. During the first 7 or 8 years after my initial transformation in 2003 I did quite a few “bulks” (eating and training to build muscle size) followed by “cuts” (fat loss programs). My last bulk was in late 2008/early 2009, but in 2010, 2011 and 2012 I still did winter cutting programs to get lean for summer. A quick review of… [Read more]

October mileage goal reached; November goal; Two new road KOMs yesterday.

My goal last month was to ride at least 400 miles, and I demolished that goal by riding 490.66 total miles. I also climbed more than 10,000 feet and, according to Garmin, burned almost 22,000 calories. Here’s how my cycling training progress over the past three months compares: It’s interesting to note that my average speed during the month of October was more than 25% faster than it was in August (14.3 MPH vs 10.7… [Read more]

NE storms; New video; Another great workout; Broken toe doing better. Happy Halloween!

I want to take a moment to give my best to everyone who has been affected by the storm in the Northeast US. I heard from my friend and JSF Sponsor Aram “Mastover” Hamparian (who lives in the Bronx, NY), and he said things are really bad there. You’re all in our thoughts. Please stay safe. Last night I finished working on the second video from Saturday’s 50 mile “Ride Of the Living Dead”. This… [Read more]

My RoadID arrived; Yesterday’s workout; New video coming. My RoadID: The Wrist ID Sport in black.

My RoadID (I ordered the “Wrist ID Sport” in black) arrived yesterday afternoon, and I’m very pleased with it. The ID looks good, is very comfortable and is super lightweight (just 10g, verified). Obviously this is a bit of equipment that I hope is never needed, but in the unfortunate event that I am involved in an accident it could very well save my life. At just 20 bucks, it’s an inexpensive but smart investment…. [Read more]

Ride Of the Living Dead: post ride report and video. 2012 Ride of the Living Dead: 50 miles of awesome mountain biking!

The 2012 Ride Of the Living Dead event was on Saturday, and we had an absolute blast tearing up the dirt! Mike Simmons and I rode the 50 mile course together, but we saw lots of friends during the event. At the trailhead before the ride we ran into Jim Beyer (dressed as Fred Flintstone), Daniel Cleaver, Mark Huff, Rob Ern and Chris Williams. I’ve ridden with Jim, Daniel and Mark before, and I knew… [Read more]

Leaving early for Santos: 50 mile Ride Of the Living Dead. I got my Fuel all tuned up and ready to go. Let's hope my legs are equaly as ready!

Today is the Ride Of The Living Dead (ROLD) at Santos! This should be a fantastic experience: lots and lots of mountain biking, super cool people, great food and some awesome costumes. Yep, many of the riders do this ride in their Halloween costumes. Lots of my friends will be there, and I know some of them will be riding in costume. I’m doing the complete 50 mile course, but I’m not dressing up: I’m… [Read more]

Last month I rode 345.78 miles, which far exceeded the 93.96 miles I rode in August. My goal for October is to ride 400 miles and, barring an injury, that goal will be blown out of the water. So far this month I’ve ridden 23 out of 25 days, and have put in a total of 379.63 miles. Here are some additional stats for the past three months (click to enlarge):   There are six… [Read more]
