I’ve discovered a piece of new cycling training software, and after spending a couple of days with it I am extremely impressed. The software is called TrainerRoad, and I believe it’s going to help take my cycling, cardio and overall athleticism to entirely new levels. To use the TrainerRoad software you’ll need a bike, a compatible indoor trainer (most are supported, but I highly recommend the –my review on the Kinetic Road Machine is here),… [Read more]

Out with the old, in with the new: setting up my high-tech cardio torture chamber.
My two Trek 4300 mountain bikes and my Schwinn 231 indoor recumbent exercise bike have all sold at my asking prices. The items sold very quickly, and both transactions went smoothly. I delivered the Schwinn exercise bike to a nice lady out in Deltona. I set up the bike for her, adjusted it so she was comfortable and then walked her through some of the bike’s features. She was very excited about exercising again, and… [Read more]

First ride on my new Madone: a few thoughts, and a few questions.
Yesterday morning I took my new Trek Madone 5.9 out for her first real ride. Today I’ve got some thoughts on the ride and the bike, as well as a few questions for you roadies out there. I decided to go to the Seminole-Wekiva trail for my first ride. Even though this trail crosses a lot of busy intersections and driveways leading to shopping centers and the like, the trail itself does not allow motorized… [Read more]

I bought my new road bike yesterday: details and photos!
My hunt for a road bike is finally over! As a mountain biker who has not been on a road bike in more than 20 years, I had a lot of ground to cover before deciding on my bike of choice. This project has been enjoyable, but also sometimes difficult and confusing. The advice I received from people whose opinions I respect a great deal was, quite often, completely at odds! At first I found… [Read more]

Banana plants are fruiting!; Road bike update–change of heart.
As regular readers of my blog know, last year Lisa and I planted quite a few fruit trees in our back yard (lemons, oranges, bananas, key limes, papaya…) Most of the fruit has done well, but last year our entire banana fruit crop was destroyed by a January hard freeze. That really sucked, because I’d worked hard for many months to care for the plants, and the fruit was very close to harvest. I covered… [Read more]

On pace to hit 400 miles this month; Getting close on road bike choice.
Last month I rode 346 miles, and my October goal is to better that by biking at least 400 miles. So far I’m ahead of pace, and have put in five rides in five days for a total of 86.84 miles. Yesterday I did another pretty tough workout: 10 laps on the Florida Flo loop at Mt. Dora with no rest breaks. That’s the second time I’ve done that workout this week, and it’s a… [Read more]
