Another good ride; Mt. Dora work day to build new MTB skills area.
Yesterday I did a 60 minute/17.7 mile workout on the trainer. This workout was pretty much identical to Tuesday’s workout, but I slightly increased my average wattage on the 40 minute working interval from 219 to a little over 222 watts (still in Tempo zone–77.1% of my FTP). I also finished up the working interval with a 1-minute “climb”. You can check out the complete ride here.
I still have some remnants of the flu (mostly some sinus issues and a slight headache) but my strength is coming back and my body is no longer feeling achy.
My plan is to keep riding this week, but not go crazy with the intensity. Next week I will resume my structured cycling training, but I’m going to backtrack a couple of weeks in the training program I’m currently following on TrainerRoad (Intermediate Base II). I was up to the 9th workout (“The Thumb”), but I’m going to go back to the 4th workout (“Newcomb”) and pick it up from there. I think this is the smartest thing to do.
I’m also going to reduce my FTP slightly to account for the fitness I’ve lost. My FTP was most recently measured to be 288, and I’ll probably back it off just a little bit, perhaps 2%-4% (275-280). As I regain my previous level of fitness I’ll bump up my FTP.
I’m not going to be participating in this Saturday’s WMBC group ride, as there is a work day scheduled at the Mt. Dora MTB Trails. We’re going to be building a brand new skills area, and it’s going to be really cool!
The skills area is planned to include three different lines of various skill levels (easy, harder, hardest). There will be clay rollers, skinnies, berms, rock gardens and a few other treats. Check out the image to the left (click to zoom, subject to change).
The skills area is just the first of several planned improvements/additions to the Mt. Dora trail. 🙂
If you live in the area, please join us at the Mt. Dora trails on Saturday morning! The work starts at 8:30 AM, and after we’re done we can ride the new features. Also, when the work is done I’ll be handing out free beer (21 and older, of course), and I think Mike Simmons will be signing autographs for a nominal charge. See you there!
