Mt. Dora MTB Trails work day; Another good workout yesterday.
Just a quick blog this morning: we’re building an all-new skills area at the Mt. Dora Mountain Bike trails today, and I want to get there early. If you live in the area, the grab your gloves and come help us make a great trail system even better!
Yesterday I had a lot of work to do, so I had to get in a quick morning ride on the trainer. I did a 60 minute/18.1 mile workout, and that’s the third workout of that type I’ve done this week (with a fun mountain biking ride sandwiched in there).
On each successive trainer workout I’ve done this week I’ve increased the intensity level and average wattage on the 40 minute working interval: 219 watts on the first workout, 222 watts on the second workout and yesterday I averaged 233 watts (81% of my Functional Threshold Power, or “FTP”). I also finished up yesterday’s 40-minute working interval with another 1-minute “climb”, this one “steeper” than Wednesday’s climb (I peaked at a little over 1,000 watts).
Another indication that my fitness and strength is returning is that despite the higher wattage output my average heart rate yesterday was 151 BPM, while on Wednesday it was 158 BPM. I was very happy to see that.

I’m feeling good, so next week I’ll resume the Intermediate Base II training program on TrainerRoad.
I’m going to cook breakfast, get the beer on ice (very important), load up the truck and head over to the trails. Hope to see some of you there!
