2013 maintenance weekly progress report: week #12 EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale

Week #12 of my 2013 maintenance program is complete, and it’s time for my weekly progress report. Note that I was on vacation from Saturday March 9 through Sunday March 24th, so these stats will be compared to the Sunday progress report before my vacation, which was week #8 (March 3rd). My scale weight this morning (as measured by the ) is 175.6 pounds. That’s a 3.4 pound gain since week #8’s weight of 172.2… [Read more]

Heading out to do the 42-mile Epic MTB ride… Fuel is tuned and ready to roll!

Quick blog this morning: I’m heading out very early to do the 42-mile+ Epic MTB ride at Santos (see yesterday’s blog)! Santos is more than an hour away and we’re hitting the dirt at 8:00 AM, so I’ve got to get my morning routine done, make breakfast, get the truck loaded up and get on the road. We’ve got a great group of about six or seven strong riders going. I’ve ridden with all these… [Read more]

42-mile “Epic” MTB group ride on tap for Saturday! Ocala Mountain Biking Association 42-mile Epic Mountain Bike Ride at Santos.

Yesterday morning I was checking out the weather forecast for the weekend, and I saw that Saturday’s weather is going to be a picture-perfect riding day. There’s a pretty tough WMBC metric century (100 KM) group road ride on Saturday morning, and that sounded good to me, but as I thought about it I realized what I really wanted to do was spend the day mountain biking. I’ve been itching to go back to Santos… [Read more]

Fun ride with Mike at Wekiwa State Park yesterday. Gnarly roots at Wekiwa Springs State Park. Here's my modified Trek Fuel EX 8 (L) and Mike's carbon Ibis Mojo (R), which he just converted to 650B.

Yesterday my friend Mike and I planned to do a little work on Mike’s bike in my home shop and then head over to Wekiwa State Park for some MTB shenanigans. Mike had never ridden at Wekiwa before, and so I was looking forward to giving him a tour. The morning started off pretty cold at 37° (F), so we decided to make it a lunch ride. When we set off from the trailhead it… [Read more]

Great ride yesterday; Exercising during the work day. It was a cool and beautiful, but very windy, day!

I’m still not caught up at work, so yesterday I had to settle for a 20 mile road ride on my lunch hour. It was fairly cool at around 55° (F), but the strong winds cut right through my Lycra and made it feel even colder. Thankfully the sun was shinning bright, and that provided some warmth. Once I got warmed up the cool air felt invigorating. My legs felt really solid on the bike… [Read more]

Two great workouts yesterday. Yesterday's workout graph: "Thunder" on TrainerRoad

After two weeks off, as you can imagine yesterday was a very busy work day. I still manged to squeeze in a 35 minute weight training workout before work, and a 60 minute cycling training workout on my lunch hour. My weight training workout was pretty straightforward: deadlifts, Bulgarian split squats, body weight wide-grip pull-ups (to failure) and weighted chest dips. I felt surprisingly good considering it’s been two weeks since I last lifted. Yesterday… [Read more]

Post-vacation report: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly Still unavailable for comment.

For more than ten years my morning ritual has been to throw back a couple cups of strong black coffee while my sleepy eyes are jolted awake by a blank, stark white blog editing screen. After two weeks away, it feels comforting to have that screen before me once again, hot coffee in hand. Two weeks? Is that all it’s been? It feels like it’s been much longer to me. I guess that’s because so… [Read more]

I’m on vacation!

Today is my last day of work before my two week vacation starts! Work has been pretty stressful lately, and I’ve also spent pretty much all my spare time over the past couple of months doing spring projects and spring cleaning. It’s going to be very nice to relax and enjoy the fruits of my labor for a bit… and ride my bike! We’ve also got family coming to stay with us for a week,… [Read more]

Conditioning returning: another workout compared; Mastover sale–last day! Where I make friends with pain.

I had a long and fairly stressful day at work yesterday, and I had to force myself to train. As is always the case when I don’t feel like working out, the hardest part is making myself do it; the other absolute is that I never regret doing so. 🙂 Yesterday’s cycling workout was “Ericsson” on TrainerRoad. This 60 minute/17.3 mile workout contains 4×8 minute intervals in the sweet spot (88-94% FTP). The workout is… [Read more]

Ten years 100% marijuana and drug free. I took this picture in December 2002, about one month before I started my transformation. A few months later (March 6, 2003) I gave up drugs forever.

March 6, 2003 is the day I decided to stop smoking marijuana forever. Actually, I didn’t decide on that day, but that was the day I finally was able to do it. I’d been wanting to quit smoking weed for many years, but I simply could not do it. Only after beginning my transformation and taking charge of my health was I able to find the strength I needed to give up my all-consuming habit…. [Read more]
