Yesterday morning I was checking out the weather forecast for the weekend, and I saw that Saturday’s weather is going to be a picture-perfect riding day. There’s a pretty tough WMBC metric century (100 KM) group road ride on Saturday morning, and that sounded good to me, but as I thought about it I realized what I really wanted to do was spend the day mountain biking. I’ve been itching to go back to Santos and do the 42-mile “Epic” route again, and so I decided that if I could get someone to do it with me that is what I’d do. My fallback plan was to do the metric century road ride.
I got the ball rolling and messaged Mike; he checked his schedule and it was a go! Next, I posted about the ride on Facebook, and a good portion of the WMBC “Dirt Division” quickly signed on: Paul, Jim, Daniel, Mark, Mike and I are all in. Anyone else who can make it is welcome to join us, just let one of us know. We’ll be doing at least 42 miles, possibly more. The trash talk has already started on Facebook, so I suspect at least some of us are going to be pushing the pace a wee bit. 😉
I’ve done the Santos Epic before (and a longer 50-mile version of it at the 2012 Ride Of the Living Dead). It’s a super fun ride that includes my two favorite trails at Santos: Nayl’s Trail and Ern n’ Burn.
Here’s some footage of me and Mike riding “Ern ‘n Burn” (plus some antics before and after hitting “Ern ‘n Burn”) at the 2012 ROLD. The “Ern ‘n Burn” footage starts right at 4:30 if you want to skip the pre-ride banter.
Here’s a short video from the same event of us riding “Nayl’s Trail”.
Is it Saturday yet?! Can’t wait!
