Details on this weekend’s 100 mile group ride.
I’m really excited about doing my first century (100 mile) group ride this Saturday!
This ride is not just your average group ride: it’s extremely well-organized and very well-supported. We’ll have the benefit of a fully-stocked support bus, four SAG stops (plus a stop for lunch) and a sweeper. The sweeper will make sure no rider is left behind, and the support bus will remain at each SAG stop until every rider has passed through.
The route for the ride has been posted. It doesn’t look like we’re going to hit some of the more hilly areas, so the total elevation is only going to be around 3,200 feet for the entire ride.
It’s looking like the weather will add to the challenge. Right now the forecast is calling for a high of 88° (F), a 50% chance of rain/thunderstorms and shifting winds of 10-15 MPH. I’ll be sure to bring a baggie for my cell phone.
Right now it looks like we’ll have at least 35 riders, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it actually winds up being 50 or more. Everyone is welcome, so if you’re in the area and up for a big day, let me know and I’ll get you the details.
I need to get a light ~50 kilometer ride in this morning, which will put me over the 1,000 kilometer mark for May (my goal). I will not be riding tomorrow, but will be eating LOTS of carbs. 🙂
