In Saturday’s blog I posted a photograph of my tired Pearl iZUMi MTB shoes, which are literally falling apart. I knew I was heading to Santos on Sunday for the 42-mile IMBA “EPIC” ride, and I thought that would be a perfect ride on which to test a new pair of shoes before the Black Bear Rampage.
The Genius and the Dominator have identical uppers. The only differences between the two shoes are the soles and cleat mounting systems. Because I love my Genius shoes so much, I figured the Dominator would be the perfect MTB shoe.
Sure enough, when I tried on the Dominator (I wear size 45 EU), they felt exactly the same as the Genius. Sold!
The only issue I had on Sunday’s 42-mile MTB ride was some hot spotting on one of my big toes deep into the ride, around mile 37. I think I had that shoe ratcheted a little too tightly, as a quick ratchet adjustment immediately solved the problem. The Dominators were noticeably stiffer than my old hike-a-bike Pearl iZUMis, and I felt like I was getting more power to the pedals.
SIDI is known for making high quality cycling shoes that fit well, look good and really last. While these shoes are a little on the expensive side (and they are not even SIDI’s top of the line models!), I expect they will provide me with many years of reliable service.
