On vacation: Ducktown here we come!
The last time I actually had a real vacation was the JSF cruise to the Bahamas back in August 2008–and that was more like a long weekend. We did pack a lot of fun into those 3 or 4 days, though. Man, that was a good time…
Anyway, it’s been five years since I was able to really get away from everything. As most of you know, I’ll be heading up to Tennessee with a bunch of friends to participate in the 40-mile Black Bear Rampage mountain bike race. While I’m very much looking forward to getting my ass handed to me in my first MTB race, I am just as excited about the rest of the trip: excellent food, cold craft beer, good friends and mountain biking on awesome single track unlike anything we have here in Florida… This is going to rock. And I need it.
When I return to blogging on Monday, September 16th I’ll have a full report along with plenty of photos and video (I’ll be taking my GoPro). We won’t just be riding the Black Bear course, we’re going to hit some of the other trails up that way, too. If you can’t wait until September 16th, I’ll likely be updating Facebook regularly.
On the road cycling side of things, I’m still planning to do the Gran Fondo Giro d’Italia in Miami in November. That should be a great experience. I’m probably going to be participating in a couple more century (100 mile) rides before the year is out, too. The Horrible Hundred, in particular, is something I’d love to do. It’s the weekend after the Giro d’Italia, so we’ll see if my legs are up for it. The HH is one very tough century.
When I return be on the lookout for the detailed Shimano Di2 (the electronic drivetrain on my new 2013 Madone) article, as well as some follow-up thoughts on the Continental Grand Prix 4000 S road cycling tires (so far I LOVE them) and the SIDI Genius and Dominator shoes (road and MTB, respectively).
I’m also planning to shoot an all-new video of my home bike shop. As I mentioned in this blog, the list of materials on my shop page is always 100% up-to-date, but the video is two years old and could use a refresh. While I’m at it, I’ll probably take all-new pictures.
See you all in a couple weeks!
