Passed on the Horse Farm Hundred, glad that I did.
I decided to pass on yesterday’s Horse Farm Hundred ride up in Gainesville. Not only was I up fairly late celebrating my birthday on Saturday night, but I also felt like I’d either overdone it on Thursday’s ride, was possibly getting sick, or perhaps a combination of all of those things.
I was really hurting on the 45 mile ride I did on Saturday, and my average heart rate was much higher than normal. That ride was sort of the litmus test for whether or not I was going to even think about trying to get up for Sunday’s century.
Instead of riding yesterday I spent the morning outside with Lisa getting some yard work done. I felt really dehydrated for some reason, and was pounding the water and electrolytes. I would have been in deep trouble had I elected to do the 100 mile ride.
Even though I really wanted to do the Horse Farm, I know I made the right choice skipping it.
Last night I went to bed just after 7:30, and I slept for nearly 12 hours. I’m normally up before 6:00 AM, so sleeping that long and that late is another indication that my body needed rest.
This morning I’m feeling a little groggy, and still dehydrated. The only other times I’ve felt like this is after suffering from heat exhaustion on long rides (it’s happened twice before).
I’ll probably do a light ride this morning and see how I feel.
Congrats to all my friends who did the Horse Farm, and extra special kudos to Matt Bradley for completing his very first Century ride! Great job, all!
