2013 Ride Of the Living Dead is this Saturday!
I’m stoked about this year’s Ride Of the Living Dead (ROLD)! I did this 50 mile mountain bike ride last year, and it was a blast.
I was worried that I might have a schedule conflict for this year’s ROLD, and for awhile it was looking doubtful that I would be able to attend. Thankfully everything worked out, and I’ll be riding on Saturday!
The ROLD is a fun costumed (costumes are optional) mountain bike ride that is held at the Santos Mountain Bike park in Ocala, Florida. The ride is fully supported with SAG stops, and lunch afterwards.
There are two available routes: a shorter 22 mile ride, and the full 50 mile ride. The 50 mile ride is essentially an extended version of the 42-mile IMBA “Epic” route.
My friends and I will be doing the 50 mile ride. So far I think me, Mike Simmons, Daniel Clever, Rob Ern, Mark Huff and Jim Beyer will all be riding. Hope I didn’t miss anyone. Andrew and Chris, are you guys in again this year? Paul Lewis, I’ve not heard anything from you yet. You missed it last year, you better be there this year! 🙂
Here’s the 2013 route (click to enlarge):
This year the ride starts at the Santos trailhead. This means we’ll be hitting Nayl’s Trail and Ern ‘N Burn deep into the ride, and that will add to the challenge (both of these trails are super fun, but leg burners).
Online registration was extended until 10:00 PM today! The cost is just $25.00 if you beat the 10:00 PM deadline. You’re looking at $35.00 if you wait until Saturday morning, so don’t delay!
Bonus! The weather on Saturday is going to be perfect: sunny with a high temperature of 73° (F) and no chance of rain!
You’re out of excuses. Head over to First Place Racing and sign up!
Here are a couple of videos I shot at last year’s ROLD…
