Excellent ride at the West Orange Trail nets 7 new PRs. Post-ride, at the West Orange Trail.

Lisa had to work all weekend long, and so she had yesterday off. I had a fairly light workload yesterday, so after banging out a couple hours of early morning work I decided to take the rest of the day off. I wanted to hit Costco to stock up on some foods for my upcoming cut (more on that tomorrow), but before I did that I grabbed my Madone and headed over to the West… [Read more]

2013 Trek Madone 5.9: 3,000 kilometer report My trusty 2013 Madone 5.9.

I’ve put more than 3,000 kilometers on my new Madone, and this morning I’d like to provide some thoughts on how the bike is doing–specifically the bottom bracket. Regular readers know about the bottom bracket problems that plagued my 2011 Madone, and that Trek eventually replaced the bike under warranty. I’ve ridden the new Madone extremely hard on the road, I’ve put it through tough workouts in my bike torture chamber, I’ve done several century… [Read more]

2014 cut will start on January 13th instead of the 6th. My freezer stocked with proteins. I took this picture right after an epic Costco trip just before I began my 2012 cut.

After I posted yesterday’s blog, I started feeling even worse than I did when I first woke up. I wasn’t feeling terrible or anything–I am definitely functional–but I didn’t feel up to exercising, so I didn’t. I think it was the right call, as I’m still feeling pretty crappy this morning. I may get in a light ride this morning, but I haven’t decided on that yet. I’m getting fired up about my upcoming cut… [Read more]

Thanksgiving bloat almost gone; Fighting off a cold?

As a result of my Thanksgiving indulgences (which stretched over a couple of days), I was super bloated when I took last Sunday’s measurements and stats. My scale weight was 178 pounds–up 4.6 pounds from the previous Sunday. Even a few of my soft tape measurements had increased slightly. My Thanksgiving splurge meals were enjoyable, but I can only eat like that for a short time before I start craving grilled chicken breasts and brown… [Read more]

Fat Loss 101 Articles.

I’m short on time this morning–so far it’s been one of those days when absolutely nothing is going as it should be. In fact, that’s sort of been the story of my life over the past month or so. I’m trying to stay positive. 🙂 Since I don’t have much time, I thought I’d post some links to the Fat Loss 101 articles I wrote a couple years back. I know many of you will… [Read more]

Quick follow-up to 2014 cut plans…

I forgot about a couple of things in yesterday’s blog that will affect my 2014 cut… With regards to my diet, I have amended it as follows (changes in bold): – Clean, all-natural foods. The only processed foods I’ll consume are Nitrean protein powder, Clif bars and sauces like Sriracha. I’ll also consume energy gels and chews on rides. A Clif bar ( is my current favorite!), along with a banana has become sort of… [Read more]

2014 cut is a go: HARDCORE mode. No excuses!

A couple weeks back I wrote in my blog that I’m going to be cutting weight at the beginning of 2014. My goal–for the first time ever–is not tied to a specific body fat percentage. This time around my goal is a specific scale weight: 160 pounds. My scale weight as of this past Sunday is 178 pounds, and I expect that I’ll close out the year around 180 or so (I like to relax… [Read more]

Excellent 42 mile MTB ride yesterday; Cyber Monday Yesterday's ride: The International Mountain Biking Association's 42-mile "Epic" route at Santos MTB Park.

November was a pure roadie month for me. There are several reasons why my mountain bike has sat idle since the 50-mile Ride Of the Living Dead (which was held at Santos in late October): between my work schedule, several weekend 100-mile road cycling rides (the Warrior Ride and the Horrible Hundred) and all of the issues going on here at home, I simply have not had time to play in the dirt. I love… [Read more]
