Thursday, December 13, 2018 - Welcome, guest user!

Last hard ride of 2014 yesterday; Birth of Apopka Hammerheads? HTFU.

Strava is undoubtedly a “love it or hate it” service, but even its detractors must admit that it’s a great way to discover new places to ride and meet new people. I’ve met dozens, perhaps even more than 100, awesome people over the past few years thanks to Strava. Yesterday a small group of fast locals, all Strava users, finally got together for a ride… and what a ride it was! Our group consisted of… [Read more]

Another huge trip to Costco; No almonds OMG?!; Cut end date. 2015 cutting proteins in the house!

If you’ve read my “How I prepare for a cut” series–specifically article #2, “Diet and Supplements“–you know I always stock up on my proteins and a few other food items before a cut. Well, this past Sunday Lisa and I drove over to Costco and did just that! This Costco trip was not quite as epic as some from days past, but we still breached the $700 mark. Keep in mind we bought other household… [Read more]

Post-vacation report: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly Still unavailable for comment.

Hello fitness pals! I’m back from my 2-week holiday break and, as I always do after a vacation, this morning I’m going to break down the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The Good. First and foremost, I had a blast on my little two week break! I enjoyed fun times with family and friends, I ate some amazing food and I feel relaxed and recharged. I was planning to scale back my cycling intensity… [Read more]

Garmin Virb has arrived; On vacation. Right side view of the Garmin Virb mounted on my Trek Madone 5.9 Di2. I mounted the Virb with my K-Edge GoPro handlebar mount. Also shown, Garmin Edge 810, which uses the K-Edge Garmin computer mount.

My new action camera arrived yesterday! Amazon is still selling these excellent (but recently discontinued) cameras for with free 2-day Prime shipping. This is a phenomenal deal on a very good and very well-reviewed camera, so jump on it before they are all gone. This is a Christmas present from Lisa, so right now all I can do is admire the camera as it languishes inert and useless in its pretty box:   If I… [Read more]

Want to get ripped? Here’s how. Well-defined abs are achieved by lowering your body fat. My body fat is about 6% in this photo, and my abs are showing nicely.

I hope some of you have enjoyed, and found useful, my recent series of articles discussing the important work that goes into preparing for a fat loss diet. So far there have been four articles in that series, and I’ll be publishing a fifth article when I return from my vacation later this month. Here are the first four articles: How I prepare for a cut, step 1: Goals and start date How I prepare… [Read more]

How I prepare for a cut, step 2: Diet and supplements. 2008 bulk proteins

Last week I discussed the very first step I take when I decide that I’m going to cut body fat: setting a goal (or goals) and committing to a start date. If you’re planning to start a cutting diet in January and have not performed this step, now is the time. So, what’s next? No cutting program can be successful without a proper diet, so that is where I focus my attention after setting a… [Read more]

2014 maintenance progress report: week #38 The FatTrack Pro Digital Body Fat Caliper

Week #38 of my 2014 maintenance program is complete, and it’s time for my weekly progress report. PLEASE NOTE: A few words about my methodologies and body fat percentage My body fat, tape measurements and scale weight are all performed while fasted (first thing in the morning before eating or drinking). All measurements are taken “cold” (no pump), and flexed. A 7-point or 9-point body fat caliper pinch test is the most accurate “at-home” method… [Read more]

First of my 2014 cycling goals may be reached today. 2012, 2013 and 2014 elevation YTD totals.

It looks like the first of my major 2014 cycling goals may fall today: my elevation goal! My elevation goal for 2014 is 360,000 feet of vertical, which is about three times as much elevation than I’ve ever ascended before in a single year (I had a little over 121,000 feet of elevation in 2013). As of yesterday my elevation total for 2014 is 357,441 feet, so I’m very close. Today’s ~73 mile/117 kilometer group… [Read more]
