Week #5 of my 2014 maintenance program is complete, and it’s time for my weekly progress report.

For more information on my nine-week 2014 cutting program (which I used leading into this maintenance phase), please check out this blog. My end-of-cut blog and stats can be found here.

Tools of the trade
This is the exact equipment I use to track my progress every week

RAW DATA

My scale weight this morning (as measured by the EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale) is 160.6 pounds. That’s a +1.0 pound change since last week’s weight of 159.6 pounds, and a +2.2 pound change from my 2014 maintenance starting weight of 158.4 pounds.

My 7-point body fat reading this morning (as measured by the FatTrack PRO Digital Body Fat Caliper) is 6.3%. That’s a +0.1% change since last week’s body fat measurement of 6.2%, and a +0.1% change from my 2014 maintenance starting body fat measurement of 6.2%.

Over the past week I’ve gained 0.22 pounds of fat and gained 0.78 pounds of lean mass. Since the beginning of my 2014 maintenance program I’ve gained a total of 0.30 pounds of fat and gained a total of 1.90 pounds of lean mass.

My tape measurements (as measured by the MyoTape) indicate no changes over the past week. There have been no changes to any of my soft tape measurements since the beginning of my 2014 maintenance program.

ANALYSIS

I enjoyed a splurge meal yesterday, and so I’m a little water logged this morning. Body fat percentage and soft tape measurements are all essentially unchanged, with only a “margin of error” +0.1% change in body fat to report.

DIET

Diet this week was very clean, but I actually consumed two splurge meals: last Sunday I grilled burgers, and then yesterday I went out to eat with the family. Yesterday I had fajitas for the first time this year, and they were amazing!

To drink this week I consumed only water (about 1.5+ gallons per day) along with 2 cups of black coffee each morning, a cup of warm Yogi Peach DeTox tea each afternoon and a cup of warm Yogi Bedtime tea each evening before bed.

TRAINING

Activity level over the past week has been fairly low. It’s been a busy week for me, and so I was not able to do any really long rides. So far this week I’ve cycled a total of 217 kilometers (134.7 miles), and I did one weight training workout (went heavy/low volume). I’ll be riding today, but we’ve got family staying with us and I’ll only be able to get away for an hour. I’ll probably wind up with 250 kilometers for the week, which is quite low for me. Hopefully next week I’ll be able to get that number back to where it should be.

My 2014 riding streak continues unbroken with 110 straight days in the saddle starting December 31, 2013. My cycling totals for 2014 (109 days) currently stand at 5,526 kilometers (3,433.8 miles) with 84,459 feet of elevation.

I’ve set 65 cycling personal records for time so far in 2014.

My total riding time for 2014 currently stands at a little over 185 hours in the saddle.

WRAP-UP

I did not start my riding streak with any aspirations or goals; it was just something that sort of evolved naturally. So here I am nearly 1/3 of the way through the year, and the streak is alive and well. At this point I can no longer claim that the streak is an afterthought: there have certainly been a couple of days this year that I would not have ridden had it not been for my desire to keep it alive (the day after my bike wreck, to site one example).

Oh hell, I’ll go ahead and say it. I want to ride every single day in 2014. Barring a serious injury/illness, or some sort of family emergency, I’m going to make it happen.
