June was another excellent (yet very hot!) month on the bike. Despite the heat, I rode my bike every single day, and set quite a few new personal records.

As I like to do at the beginning of each month, here’s a look at some of my cycling highlights, personal records and totals from the past 30 days.

Also, new this month (and continuing forward) I will be tracking my power output personal records at various time intervals. I’ve included my current power curve, as well as a chart with the actual data.

New Cycling Personal Records (Distance/Elevation/Time)
  • Total Distance Ridden, 1 month (June 2014): 1,824.03 kilometers (1,133.4 miles)
  • Total Elevation, 1 month (June 2014): 40,070 feet
  • Total Riding Time, 1 month (June 2014): 59h 52m

Also in June, I set a total of 45 cycling personal records for time on various Strava segments.

June saw my highest ever placing for Strava’s Monthly Training Series (MTS): I finished in the top 1.06% of Strava MTS cyclists worldwide, placing 1,515th out of a total of 142,296 athletes with a total of 1,824.03 kilometers ridden from June 1st – June 30th.

2014 Goals Progress

In late 2013 I publicly announced a couple of cycling distance and elevation goals for 2014. Those goals were to ride at least 10,000 kilometers (6,214 miles) with more than 160,000 feet of elevation. Earlier this year I added the additional goal of riding my bike every single day in 2014. We’re now 49.59% of the way through 2014, so let’s see how I’m doing:

My 2014 current distance total is 9,565.94 kilometers (5,944.0 miles), which puts me nearly 96% of the way to my 2014 distance goal.

On the elevation front, so far in 2014 I’ve ascended 164,803 feet, and so that’s 103% of my 2014 goal. Goal reached. 🙂

When I established these distance and elevation goals in late 2013, they were considerably higher than anything I’d ever done before. Because we’re less than halfway through the year and I’ve already reached (or nearly reached) both of those goals, I am significantly revising them. I am now shooting for 20,000 kilometers (12,427 miles) with 360,000 feet of elevation.

My riding streak continues, and I have ridden my bike every single day for 182 days straight.

Here are comparisons of my distance and elevation for 2012, 2013 and 2014 YTD (click to enlarge):
