Apart from being forced to miss the Six Gap Century ride (work-related), this year’s “Century Season” has been absolutely fantastic thus far! I’ve done a total of six 100+ mile rides over the past few months, and have been fortunate to enjoy excellent weather and very strong, safe groups.

Next up on the century calendar is this Sunday’s ride, the Seminole Cyclefest. This ride is not a “real” century (at least in the sense that we use the term here in the states), it’s a “metric” century (100 kilometers, or 62 miles). I’m including this event as part of my century season rides as a nod to our metric-speaking brothers and sisters of the wheel. 🙂

This will be the first year I’ve done the Seminole Cyclefest ride, and I’m VERY excited about it. Why? Mainly because the entire ride is done with a rolling enclosure provided by the Seminole County Sheriff Motor Unit. No stop signs, no traffic lights, no worries about motorist or pedestrian traffic… just a very fast, but safe, police-escorted ride with some good friends. There are two mandatory SAG stops, but I can live with that. Between the short 62 mile course, the police escort and the two mandatory rest stops, I’m expecting (and hoping for) a… brisk pace. 😉

The weather forecast for Sunday looks to yet another stunning Central Florida fall day: a low temperature of 48°F, a high of 70°F, clear sunny skies and a zero percent chance of rain. Can’t beat that!
