Birthday present: 1972 Raleigh Super Course (Fixie) Picking up my 1972 Raleigh Super Course fixie yesterday.

Yesterday I added a new bike to my stable, and it’s a true vintage: the 1972 Raleigh Super Course! I’ve been wanting a “fun” bike for more casual/social rides, like the one we do out to the Yalaha Bakery on Sunday. Well, Brian Jensen, who rides with my club, made me an offer on this classic that was too good to refuse. The bike is not stock, in fact it’s a Frankenbike. I’ll go into… [Read more]

Finally celebrating my birthday this weekend! Lisa made me a special birthday cake!

My 46th birthday was on October 19th, and we were supposed to have family come over and stay with us that weekend to celebrate. I picked up a pretty bad cold around that time, and I also passed it on to Lisa. I was feeling much better by the time my birthday weekend rolled around, but Lisa was suffering the worst of it. We decided to postpone the celebration. The following weekend was the Horse… [Read more]

I’M NOT SHAVING THIS MONTH, JUST BECAUSE. Novembeard - Day 7.

Some of you might remember that back in late 2008 I didn’t shave for a few months. By the time I decided to trim my beard up I was looking a wee bit rough around the edges. I grew my beard out in 2008 for a couple of reasons… First of all, I was bulking at the time, and nothing goes better with packing on slabs of lean mass than an unruly tangle of facial… [Read more]

Goals for the New Year: I will be cutting.

I don’t think it’s too early to start planning and setting goals for 2015. In fact, I think the sooner you start thinking about what you want to accomplish, the better. I’ll be cutting body fat the first part of the year, there’s no question about that. I’m currently up about 7 pounds from my 2014 end-of-cut weight of 158.4 pounds, and I’ll be putting on a little more weight over the holiday months. I… [Read more]

HD aerial drone footage of the Seminole Cyclefest! The "A" group crossing the St. John's River, about 6.5 miles into the Seminole Cyclefest ride. I'm at the front of the double paceline, on the left.

After I posted yesterday’s blog (see “2014 Seminole Cyclefest: Ride Report“), some incredible HD drone footage of the ride was put online! Here’s a screen capture from the video. This was about 6.5 miles into the ride, as we were crossing the St. John’s River. In this shot I’m pulling at the front of the double paceline, on the left by the white line (click to enlarge):   In the video you’ll also see the… [Read more]

2014 Seminole Cyclefest: Ride Report The Seminole County Sheriff Motor Unit preparing for the ride.

Yesterday morning I attended the 5th annual Seminole Cyclefest, and it was a fantastic ride! This was my first year doing this ride and, overall, I came away very impressed. The Seminole Cyclefest honors Florida veterans who have served their country, overseas and at home. Charities supported this year include WIRED Athletes and Kids House. What makes this 60 mile/97 kilometer ride unique (a shorter 25 mile route is also available) is the rolling escort… [Read more]
