2015 cut progress report: week #5 EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale

Week #5 of my 2015 cut is complete, and it’s time for my weekly progress report. PLEASE NOTE: A few words about my methodologies and body fat percentage My body fat, tape measurements and scale weight are all performed while fasted (first thing in the morning before eating or drinking). All measurements are taken “cold” (no pump), and flexed. A 7-point or 9-point body fat caliper pinch test is the most accurate “at-home” method of… [Read more]

Tough training ride this morning…

Quickie this morning, I’ve got a bike to ride. 🙂 I did a real easy ride yesterday, with one short sprint. I came very close to a couple of new wattage output PRs on that sprint, but my legs didn’t quite have it in them yesterday. Hopefully my wheels are ready for war this morning, because today’s ride is probably not going to be an easy one. The ride is 106 miles, and I am… [Read more]

My fat melting furnace is raging! Burn fat, burn!

My diet and training must be perfectly dialed in right now, because the fat is melting away at an amazing rate! I woke up this morning down almost another half pound (current weight is now 166.0 pounds), and that brings my total weekly scale weight loss to 2 pounds after just 4 days, and my total for this cut to 13.2 pounds. As I wrote yesterday, tomorrow morning I’ll be doing a fast 106 mile… [Read more]

Feeling great, right on schedule. Asian Stir Fry

Yesterday morning when I stepped on the scale I was down another 0.4 pounds (166.6), bringing this week’s weight loss to 1.4 pounds after 3 days. I’m obviously really happy about that at this stage of the game. Last night I prepared my favorite Asian stir fry for Meal #5. This dish is very healthy, but I generally hold a little water the day after consuming it because it’s a bit higher in sodium than… [Read more]

Do you hate the foods you eat? Do you think that’s sustainable? All gone. :( It doesn't matter if I'm cutting or maintaining, oatmeal, a banana and some strong black coffee is my standard breakfast. Perfect pre-ride fuel.

A few minutes ago I was sitting at my desk with my usual morning fare spread out in front of me: a big bowl of warm oats covered in cinnamon and sprinkled with a teaspoon of sugar, a hot cup of strong black coffee, and a banana. I woofed down the fruit, tossed the peel aside and, before the discarded skin hit the desk, I was already pulling the oats closer. Salivating, I took a… [Read more]

“I wish I had your willpower, John!”; Time for a mid-season pep talk.

I received an email yesterday from a newer JSF visitor who has been following my 2015 cut. This gentleman began his fitness program on January 1st, but has been struggling to stay on track. I checked out his food logs on MyFitnessPal, and was, frankly, appalled. Instead of addressing his email, I asked him if I could blog about it this morning. He kindly agreed, with two conditions: that he remain anonymous, and that I… [Read more]

My cycling month in review: January 2015 My January 2015 photo of the month is from the Orange Cycle New Year's Day Ride. It was a cool experience to be a part of the hundreds of cyclists who rolled through a virtually deserted downtown Orlando.
