2015 maintenance progress report: Week #8 EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale

Week #8 of my 2015 maintenance program is complete, and it’s time for my weekly progress report. METHODS AND MINUTIA: A few words about my body fat test, scale weight and soft tape measurements My body fat, tape measurements and scale weight are all performed while fasted (first thing in the morning before eating or drinking). All measurements are taken “cold” (no pump), and flexed. A 7-point or 9-point body fat caliper pinch test is… [Read more]

Quick post this morning…

It’s been a fairly hectic and stressful work week (despite the fact that is was only 4 days long), and I woke up this morning looking forward to grabbing an early bike ride. Unfortunately what I actually woke up to was a network fire that needed to be put out. Thankfully that’s all taken care of now, but I’m about an hour behind and rushing to get out the door. Looks like today’s ride will… [Read more]

Good week; More on roasted root veggies; Forum work continues. Grilled Herb Chicken.

It’s been another excellent week of riding, lifting (yeah, I still do that!) and clean eating. My weight is down–albeit just slightly–from last week, but that’s what I’m after: slow and consistent scale weight loss over the next few months (see “2015 cut and beyond: mistakes were made…” for my mea culpa). I received some great feedback about yesterday’s blog–thanks! Looks like quite a few of you are fans of roasted root vegetables, too. A… [Read more]

Roasted root vegetables! Last night's selection, just before popping in the oven.

Lisa and I have been on a roasted root vegetable kick lately. Well, mostly root vegetables–a few other types of veggies find their way in there, too. This dish is super easy to prepare, it’s extremely versatile and very healthy. We simply chop up whatever veggies we feel like eating, throw them in a large glass casserole dish and toss them with olive oil. A little salt & pepper, and they are good to go…. [Read more]

Awesome 3-in-1 body wash NIVEA Men Active3 3-in-1 Body Wash

Today’s blog is for the dudes. Presumably most of the people who visit JSF are very active, train hard and sweat a lot. I shower at least once per day, sometimes twice per day and–occasionally–even three times per day. I can’t stand not feeling clean. I have always been a fan of liquid body washes, and over the years have tried quite a few of them. A few months ago the body wash I was… [Read more]

Hard ride Saturday, new 4-hour wattage PR; Why zeros count. I love riding at sunrise. This was the view near the beginning of Saturday's solo 83 mile training ride.

I got some good rides in over the 3-day weekend, enjoyed some down time and had a few really tasty meals. My longest and toughest ride was on Saturday morning. The ride was 133 kilometers (83 miles), and I rode solo. Group rides are a lot of fun and, depending on the group, they often have a competitive dynamic that is really motivating and effective from a training standpoint. That said, I really enjoy solo… [Read more]

Memorial day thanks flag

While it’s nice to have a three day weekend, I think it’s important to not lose sight of what this day is for. I’m not going to talk fitness today, and instead would like to simply express my gratitude for all the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for my country. Regardless of our individual political leanings, I think we can all agree that would not enjoy the many freedoms we often… [Read more]

Feeling good; May, and already sick of the heat. Slight exaggeration.

It felt good to tighten up my diet this week. I was really strict, and almost felt like I was in cutting mode. Well, I guess in a way I am cutting, but very slowly. The nice thing is I have a splurge meal meal to enjoy tonight, which is definitely something I would not be having on one of my usual cuts. I’ve been sleeping really well this week, and overall I’m feeling quite… [Read more]
