Uh oh, I seem to be sick; Lakemont ride with video footage
Yesterday I intended to ride hard, but not too deep into my ride I started feeling horrible. I decided to shut it down, and remained in Zone 2 for the rest of the ride.
I felt off all day yesterday, and this morning I’m feeling even worse. Looks like I’ve picked up a bug of some kind. Thankfully I’m not so sick that I can’t ride, but I’m not really going to enjoy it.
I’d have to be pretty damn sick to not ride today because my daily riding streak reaches a fairly significant milestone tomorrow: 500 straight days! 🙂
I never talked about the Lakemont Long ride I did on Saturday. That was a fantastic and fast ride with a HUGE group. I don’t have an exact number, but I would say we were easily over 100 cyclists. It was very cool riding on roads I don’t usually get to hit. We were moving pretty good, too: my ride average was around 23 mi/h (37 km/h), but excluding the warmup and cooldown my ride average was 25 mi/h (40.2 km/h). Lots of action, too. I’ll definitely be back for more.
Here we are nearing the end of the warmup, about 13 miles in:
I did a quick edit of one small section of the ride that was pretty exciting. I’ve included captions in the video, but I’ll set the stage…
The clip starts about 18 miles (29 km) into the 66 mile (106 km) ride. I was near the front of the peloton, riding next to my friend Hector. A couple of guys had gone off the font, but they were not too far up. A few riders decided to chase them down, and flew by us. I couldn’t resist, and joined the chase. We wound up with a 9-man break, and put some nice distance between us the main group, but we got shut down by a long light. Here’s the footage (available in 1080p):
