Nice day yesterday, paying for it today.
I took most of yesterday off from work, and had a great time hanging out with Lisa and her parents. After my morning ride, Lisa and I went over to her parents house, where I set up a WiFi router and some other WiFi stuff for them. Can you believe they have never had wireless until now? Now they can actually use their bangin’ 65″ 3D smart TV, and not use their cell phone data when at home.
After that “work” was done, it was play time. 🙂 We all went to the movies and saw Jurassic World in IMAX 3D. Lisa and I are lucky to have a wonderful home theater, so we don’t go to the movies all that much. I’ve only seen a handful of IMAX 3D movies, and I’m always blown away by the experience. Jurassic World was not a “great” movie, but it was a fun, mindless popcorn thrill ride that we all enjoyed. I will note that I don’t think I would have enjoyed the film as much without the incredible 3D visuals and the full IMAX experience. I was also moderately disappointed that The Goldblum did not make a cameo.
In addition to the “wow” factor I experience every time I go to an IMAX 3D movie, I’m equally as shocked by the prices. 4 movie tickets (mid-week, early afternoon showing), popcorn and drinks: almost $120.00. The popcorn and drinks alone were 50 bucks. The popcorn was not as good as the popcorn I make in my theater lobby, either (taste was the same, but it was not nearly as hot and as fresh). Oh, and what’s with the “convenience fee” of 8 dollars for purchasing tickets in advance online? That’s crazy. These are some of the reasons I am glad we have a theater at home. The expense of going to the movies is out of control.
Luckily we had a great audience. No crying kids, no talkers and no cell phone users. Definitely a fun afternoon, and something I really needed. I don’t think my stress level has ever been higher than it has been over the past few weeks.
Of course during the 3 hours my phone was in airplane mode the entire world suddenly decided that it to reach me all at once. So today I’ll be playing catch-up for daring to take a personal day.
Oh well, at least it’s Friday. 🙂
