Hell week wasn’t nearly as bad as usual!
Late last week I wrote about “hell week”, which is the couple of weeks during which college students are moving into their off-campus apartments. My company provides broadband Internet services primarily to students who live in off-campus housing, so the large simultaneous influx of new residents is typically an extraordinarily busy time of the year for me (I’m the senior network administrator).
After more than a decade in my current position, I pretty much know what to expect. Well, this year was the smoothest move-in ever–and not just by a little bit. I would estimate that, in total, there were less issues that required my involvement over the past week than I would typically deal with in a single day in years past. I can’t say for sure why that is, but I suspect that it’s because people are much more computer literate now than they were 10 or even 5 years ago.
It was still a busy week for me, but there was never a point where I felt overwhelmed. I am still sort of in disbelief. Happy disbelief.
I figured I was going to have to work this weekend, but right now things are looking clear. I probably just jinxed myself.
This morning I’m going to do about 60 fast miles with a few heavy hitters, and this afternoon Lisa’s parents are coming over to stay the weekend with us. Should be a fun weekend! 🙂
