Jaybird replacement earbuds to arrive Monday with unexpected upgrade
In my October 16th blog, “Jaybird Freedom Sprint Bluetooth earbuds: Follow-up review“, I wrote about some of the quality issues I’ve been experiencing with the otherwise stellar Jaybird Freedom Sprint earbuds. You can check out that blog if you want the full story, but the tl;dr version is the Freedom Sprints–despite being marketed as “sweat-proof”–are, in my experience (I’ve gone through three pair in less than 2 months), lacking in that department.
In my October 16th blog I gave Jaybird very high marks for customer service. When I contacted them about the repeated failures, they offered to upgrade my Freedom Sprints to their more expensive and, according to the rep, “more sweat-proof” (their words–I’m swear not making it up!), Bluebuds X. Jaybird even paid for the return shipping of the latest defective pair of Freedom Sprints.A couple days ago I received an email from Jaybird letting me know that my return was received, and that my replacement buds were on the way. When I glanced down at the order summary I was surprised to see that Jaybird actually sent me a pair of their brand new, top of line earbuds, the Jaybird X2. The X2s sell for nearly 200 bucks, so that’s quite an upgrade. I’m not sure if this was an error, a further act of good customer service or, perhaps, that they saw my blog. I’ll note that at no point in my conversations with Jaybird support did I mention JSF or my blog, but my email address sort of gives it away.
I mention all of this because I posted that I would be doing an all new review on the Bluebud X earbuds, but instead the review is going to be on the new X2s.
The new earbuds will be here on Monday (Jaybird even tossed in 2-day FedEx shipping!), and I’m looking forward to putting them through the wringer. Look for some initial thoughts soon, and a detailed full review in a few months.
