Happy New Year! My resolutions for 2016.
I’d like to wish everyone a very Happy New Year! Please have fun, and be safe celebrating tonight.
2015 has been another amazing year, and I’m going to work hard to make 2016 even better. My life will see some big changes in 2016–both personally and professionally–and I have to admit that some of those shifts are going to be very difficult, even scary. Life-altering changes can certainly be unnerving, but at the same time they often provide new opportunities.
My two-part resolution for 2016 is simple: keep things in their proper perspective, and strive to remain positive. As I mentioned in my Thanksgiving blog, I sometimes catch myself bitching about trivial “first world” problems, and I really dislike that about myself. I’ve improved, but I’m far from perfect. I can, and will, do better.
Along those lines, I am going to start eliminating negative people from my life. My simple rule is this: if someone in my life generally makes me feel worse whenever I interact with him or her, then that person needs to go. This isn’t always an easy thing to do, but I think it’s healthy. The vast majority of my friends and acquaintances are great folks, and I love being around them. There are, however, some who always seem to have something nasty to say about… everything. I’m no longer going to attempt to maintain a facade of indifference towards people who spew endless streams of bile and negativity. One of the benefits of growing older is you stop giving a shit what other people think of you–especially those people you don’t particularly care for in the first place.
I’m about to go do my final ride of 2015! This ride will complete a second full year of daily riding (731 days after today’s ride), and so I’ll be celebrating that accomplishment as part of my New Year festivities this evening.
I’ll be posting my usual cycling month in review tomorrow, and on Saturday I’ll have a big blog focused on my various cycling accomplishments, fails, trials and tribulations from the past year. I’ll also talk a bit about what I have planned for 2016.
Happy New Year!
