A little bit of winter–finally!

We’re finally getting a taste of winter here in Central Florida! Well, at least our version of winter. It was in the mid-40s when I rode yesterday morning, and this morning when I woke up it was just a couple degrees above freezing. I don’t mind it one bit. I’m so sick of the heat that there’s no way I’m going to complain about a couple nice chilly mornings.

It was too dark for photos this morning, so here's a picture of Sonny last winter.

When I let the dogs out, they went absolutely insane out there! I know Sonny has experienced cold weather before (in fact, yesterday was Sonny’s 1 year anniversary with us!) but, at less than a year old, I do believe this is Buckley’s very first taste of cold outside air. Those dogs played non-stop until I called them in for breakfast. When I yelled “Who’s hungry?!” Sonny came running, but Buckley refused to come in! I had to go out there and get him, freezing my ass off in the dark and cold. 😀

I did a recovery ride yesterday, and it was hard to ride so slow due to the cold air. It’s a little uncomfortable riding in windy, cold weather when your pace is so slow that you can’t get your heart rate up. Not only that, cold weather just makes me want to ride fast. I really needed that recovery, though, and so I resisted the urge to ride faster.

My diet yesterday was terrible. I don’t know what got into me, but I ate above maintenance, and made some unhealthy choices. I woke up feeling pretty bad, too. I’m going to atone for those unplanned indulgences on today’s ride, and my diet is going to be ultra-tight for the rest of the week.
