Remembering Loki today

Fitness and bikes are not on my mind this morning, so I hope you’ll indulge me while I write a little bit about what is.
It was two years ago today that Lisa and I had to say goodbye to our beloved family member, Loki. Loki was a HUGE part of our lives, and he was a member of our pack for an amazing 18 years! There has literally not been a day since we lost Loki that I’ve not thought about him.
I just re-read the blog I wrote on the morning we had to make the gut-wrenching decision to put Loki down, and also the follow-up blog I wrote a few days later. Reading those blogs brought back some tough memories, but I mostly thought about all the great times I shared with Loki.
There’s still an undercurrent of pain when I think about him, and there probably always will be, but this morning I’m mostly smiling and laughing as I watch his old videos and flip through the zillion or so photos we have of him.
One of the ways I choose to honor Loki (and, of course, his faithful sidekick, Turtle, who lost her battle with cancer in 2009) is to shower Sonny and Buckley with extra love, a special dinner and a few new toys. A pair of Benebones and a Booda Fresh N Floss 3 Knot Tug Rope will be arriving today, and we’re going to play as long as they want.
I miss you, old boy.
I know the month but I’ve blocked out the exact date. Too painful.

Its very hard, John. Pets are valued family members and I know how you feel. If people don’t shed a tear when they lose such a valued family member, they must need a heart transplant.

Wonderful pet and member of the family….exceptional parents!

I know how you and Lisa are feeling. When I lost my yellow lab, Ceasar, who was like a ‘grand kid’ even to my folks, suddenly, oh my goodness, it was difficult on me for a long time. <3
