Excellent feedback on JSF Mobile app; Feature change, bug report.
Thanks for all the great feedback on the new JSF Mobile app (see yesterday’s blog)! Almost 300 of you installed the app over the past 24 hours, and so far the feedback has been very positive.
One change that I made in response to your feedback was to disable “Endless Scrolling”. This is the feature that automatically loads more blog entries as the user scrolls down the main page. The problem with Endless Scrolling is that it makes reaching the bottom of the page (where the social media icons live) impossible. It was a neat little feature, but not too practical from a UI standpoint. You can still continue to load an infinite number of blogs from the main page, but you’ll need to click the “Load More Entries”; clicking that text link will load 8 more entries at a time. I think that’s a good trade-off.
I am still working on the issue preventing a couple of the pages from rendering properly on the mobile site. Recipes, Favorite Things, Current Promotions and my Monthly/Year Cycling Reports are affected (and only on the mobile site). I’m working with the designer of the mobile theme on the problem, and one way or the other we’ll have it fixed very soon. Thanks for your patience.
Apart from the issue I just mentioned, things are running really well on both sites now. I’m almost at the point at which I can get the bridging software installed, which is a pretty big job. That software is going to make the main site and the forums even more seamless.
After that I’m going to take a fresh look at getting Facebook comments working for the blogs. I tried that once before, but the comments made directly to the blog were separate from the Facebook comments, and I felt it was too disjointed, with basically two completely different conversations happening at the same time. I’d like to see if there’s some way to combine the comments from both systems, but I’m not sure if that’s even possible (if you know of a way, please let me know!)
I’m going to be working all day today, but I’m hoping to take some time off tomorrow. I need it, it’s been a long week.
Have a great day!
