Quick blog, Sonny to vet for platelet count
I overslept this morning. Thankfully Lisa woke my lazy ass up at 6:30, “Hey, Sonny has an appointment this morning, right?”
He sure does, and this is a big one. It’s been a week since his platelets were tested, and so we’re really hoping for a nice improvement. Last week his platelet count improved from zero to 31 after just 2 days, so hopefully he’s at, or approaching, a normal range (about 200-500).
Sonny’s behavior this week has been 100% normal! His energy has been high, he’s clearly pain-free and he’s be acting just like his usual self. Obviously all good signs that indicate he’s continuing to recover.
Because he’s on such a high dose of Prednisone, he’s been drinking ridiculous amounts of water (with a corresponding increase in trips to the backyard), and his appetite has been off the charts.
Lisa snapped this picture of Sonny and Buckley a couple days ago:
Another reason we’re hopeful that Sonny’s platelet count is back to normal is so that the vet can trim his dagger-like claws. We’ve been unable to trim his claws because if the quick were accidentally nipped he would probably not stop bleeding.
I’ll update this post with his test results when we get back.
8:40 AM Update: Platelet count is 284–he’s fully recovered! 🙂 Now we’ll slowly ween Sonny off the Prednisone, and hope this never happens again.
