I need to replace my standard chicken lunch–vegetarian lunch ideas? Spicy Baked Chicken

Going vegetarian isn’t going to be a huge change from the foods I normally eat. In fact, lately Lisa and I have been eating vegetarian (and often vegan) dinners more often than not. I’ve found myself enjoying the vegetarian/vegan dinners we’ve been making as of late even more than the meat-based meals we used to always eat. Lately I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to do for my vegetarian lunches. For many years my… [Read more]

Pinterest? Indeed.

My Pinterest game is super weak. Yeah, that’s a link to my account, but up until yesterday I don’t think I’ve ever logged in or used it. Feel free to follow me, but don’t expect much. I made that account quite some time ago, mostly because Lisa wouldn’t stop badgering me about it. I don’t think any of my friends are much into the service, either. If they are, it never comes up in conversation…. [Read more]

Facebook comments live, with a twist; Mobile bugs resolved. JSF just got a lot more interactive.

I got a lot of very cool JSF-related stuff accomplished yesterday! One of the big projects I completed was to incorporate Facebook comments into my daily blogs. This was a challenge because most WordPress/Facebook comment solutions I’ve seen are problematic–at least from my vantage point. Let’s take a look at some of them… One path WordPress webmasters take is to install a Facebook comment plugin, and only allow people with Facebook accounts to comment on… [Read more]

New amazing vegan recipe: General Tso’s Cauliflower General Tso’s Cauliflower – healthy, vegan and delicious!

One of my favorite dietary indulgences is General Tso’s Chicken. General Tso’s Chicken may taste great, but is a very heavy, salty, fat-laden, deep fried meal. I usually sleep very poorly when I choose to have it because I’m up half the night drinking water. It’s for those reasons that I have not had General Tso’s Chicken in years, even though I love how it tastes. While recipes obviously vary, the National Nutrient Database for… [Read more]

Spring 2016 cut progress report: Week #5 EatSmart Precision Digital Bathroom Scale

Week #5 of my spring 2016 cut is complete, and it’s time for my weekly progress report. METHODOLOGY: A few words about my body fat test, scale weight and soft tape measurements My body fat, tape measurements and scale weight are all performed while fasted (first thing in the morning before eating or drinking). All measurements are taken “cold” (no pump), and flexed. A 7-point or 9-point body fat caliper pinch test is the most… [Read more]

Excellent feedback on JSF Mobile app; Feature change, bug report. Just click "Load More Entries" to load the next 8 blog entries.

Thanks for all the great feedback on the new JSF Mobile app (see yesterday’s blog)! Almost 300 of you installed the app over the past 24 hours, and so far the feedback has been very positive. One change that I made in response to your feedback was to disable “Endless Scrolling”. This is the feature that automatically loads more blog entries as the user scrolls down the main page. The problem with Endless Scrolling is… [Read more]

New JSF Mobile App launched! All done! Note the new JSF app icon at middle left. Of course you can put the app shortcut anywhere you like, but I like it on the home screen. ;)

Yesterday I made some more upgrades to the mobile functionality of JSF and the JSF Forums, and one of those upgrades is an all-new JSF Mobile app for Android and iOS smartphones! Right now the app is mostly the same as the existing mobile sites, but it’s full screen (no URL bar taking up space), runs like any other dedicated app and is launched from its own JSF app icon on your phone. The app… [Read more]

I love Amazon Same Day delivery; Free Prime trial. The Aukey Bluetooth earbuds are so inexpensive that I picked up a couple spare sets. The spares are still sitting in their boxes.

In yesterday’s blog I wrote about my experience with the economical Aukey Bluetooth earbuds, and how they compare to the expensive Jaybird X2 Bluetooth earbuds, which sell for about 10 times the price of the Aukeys. Because so many athletes who train with music read this blog, I was not surprised that there was quite a bit of feedback. Some people reported that they had similar experiences with the overpriced and unreliable Jaybird earbuds (I’ve… [Read more]

Inexpensive Aukey earbuds are kicking the pricey Jaybird X2’s butt! These inexpensive Aukey Bluetooth earbuds are outperforming the pricey Jaybird X2s in every respect.

In a recent blog I wrote about how yet another pair of the relatively expensive Jaybird X2 Bluetooth earbuds died on me. That’s a total of five failures of the high-end “sweatproof” Jaybird earbuds in less than one year. On the recommendation of JSF member Derwinator, I recently picked up a pair of extremely inexpensive (I paid $20, but as of this writing they are selling on Amazon for less than 14 bucks!) Aukey Bluetooth… [Read more]

Mechanical question: 10-speed cassette on an 11-speed? I'd like to run an 11-28 10-speed cassette on my 11-speed Plasma. Possible?

I’ve not had any legitimate offers on my mostly brand new 2014 Madone (see My 2013 Madone is gone; Brand new 2014 Madone–for sale?). If I don’t hear anything by the end of the day I think I’m just going to keep it. I’ve got way too much else going on right now to worry about it. It’s a great bike, and will serve me well. I have one misgiving about keeping the Madone, and… [Read more]
